A special package of donations from a Chinese company arrived at City Hall in Yangon
on Monday.
The donation was from China Communications Construction Company, including medical masks
and goggles.
With the coordination of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, the donation travelled quickly to its
destination during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tan Shufu, counsellor of Chinese Embassy, said China and Myanmar are good neighbors and good
friends. “When we were in difficulty some time ago, Myanmar friends provided a lot assistance to us.
Now, our Myanmar friends are facing the pandemic challenges, and we should reach out our hands
to help,” Tan said.
U Maung Maung Soe, mayor of Yangon and also chairman of the Yangon City Development
Committee (YCDC), expressed his sincere thanks to the Embassy of People’s Republic of China
and the donor.
“Thank all of you for your kind-hearted support. These donations are very practical and important,"
he said. "It shows that China is our really good friend, especially when we are in difficulty.”
YCDC provides all supporting and preparation work for medical teams, including power and water
supplies. The mayor expressed sincere thanks to Chinese friends who care about the protection of
logistics service workers.
"The donation is just in time and will keep our workers from being infected, ” he said.
“I wish to work hand in hand with our Chinese friends, not only in fighting against COVID-19, but
also in urban development after the pandemic, for the development of our city as well as for our country, ”
he concluded.
